Golden Hour Summer Family Session // McKenzie Family

When Robin first reached out to me about scheduling a photoshoot of her family, she was so sweet and wrote, “I've been looking through portfolios of local family photographers and your images instantly brought tears to my eyes! You've captured such beautiful, intimate images of families in their unique element.” Her words were so kind and encouraging, I couldn’t wait to work with her and her family!

Robin explained that she wanted to convey the love their family shared in the midst of the chaos and mess that life sometimes brings. She loved the idea of doing golden hour portraits. During the summer in Boise the sunset is at 9:30 and so that meant keeping her toddler girls up well past their bedtime. She planned for the session by doing later naps and bringing lots of snacks as a little bribe or two. We made it happen and it was SO worth it!

That’s not to say it didn’t have a few chaotic moments, haha. Did the youngest start crying almost as soon as I started taking pictures? Yep, and you can see in the first picture below she wasn’t too happy (but over time she warmed up to me :)). Did the dog run off and tip over the wagon we had him tied to? Yep! But it was all still worth it because the images we captured in between these chaotic moments are beautiful and I hope the memories they evoke for Robin and Shawn of their girls at these ages are priceless!
